Preventative Care

We provide preventative care for all stages of life from prenatal to geriatric. This care is accessed through your annual wellness exams. Below we outline some of our preventative care recommendations. Be sure to ask us about any of these at your next wellness appointment.

Vaccines

Vaccinations are unique to each individual. Our doctors will help develop a vaccine schedule tailored to your pet’s needs and age.

Parasite Control

Our pediatric patients are often sent home with a dewormer to clear their system of common intestinal parasites they come in with. Because our area has a high prevalence of intestinal parasites including giardia which is transmissible to people, we recommend a fecal parasite count at the end of the puppy deworming series, and annually thereafter. For this, it is helpful to bring a fresh stool sample with you to your pets annual wellness exam. For those of us with pets catching mice, finding the occasional scrap of raw meat, or being fed a raw diet, we may add a different dewormer to the protocol so please let us know if this is the case.  We also provide heart worm testing and monthly prevention, and flea and tick treatments to help keep your pets parasite free.

Spay & Neuter

Spay & Neuter procedures are an important part of our non-breeding pets well care. The timing of these procedures is greatly influenced by you as the client and your individual animal. We are happy to work with you to help find the optimal timing for these procedures.

Routine Blood Monitoring

We offer both in house and send out blood testing to monitor organ function and complete blood counts. At times this provides a baseline normal for our patients, but also helps us detect abnormalities early in the course of disease. It is also a reliable way for us to track impact of long term medications on the body.

Nutrition

We happily discuss individual nutritional needs with our clients. We can help you with everything from selection of well care diets to commercial prescription diets to home cooked diets for medical needs. We carry or can order prescription formulations from Purina Veterinary Diets, Hills Prescription Diet, and Royal Canin Prescription Diet for multiple conditions including; dental care, joint care, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, GI disease, allergy/atopy, urinary care, cognitive dysfunction, weight management, critical care and recovery, and more.  We are at this time advising against all grain free diets with the discovery of nutritionally mediated, dilated cardiomyopathy.

Behavior

Behavior management encompasses everything from young dog socialization with people and animals to problem mitigation. We can help you develop a behavior modification plan that may include training, socialization, or medication, set you up individual behavior management  training, or direct you towards training courses.
